Strategic Collaboration! MDMC Indonesia and I.S.A.R. Germany Enhance EMT Capacity to Meet Global Standards

PWMJATENG.COM, Yogyakarta – Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC PP Muhammadiyah) has partnered with International Search and Rescue (I.S.A.R.) Germany to conduct Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) training under the theme Twinning, Training, and Transfer Knowledge (EMT TTT), Friday-Monday (22-25/11/24). This program aims to enhance the capacity of Muhammadiyah’s EMT through knowledge and skill exchange.

The training is a continuation of online sessions held in June and July 2024, which focused on medical logistics. This session involved 105 participants from diverse backgrounds, including doctors, nurses, midwives, as well as medical and logistics administrative staff from both MDMC and I.S.A.R. Germany.

The program was conducted in two stages. The first stage consisted of a half-day indoor orientation session. Subsequently, participants underwent an intensive 1.5-day field practice. The training focused primarily on strengthening EMT logistics, especially in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and electricity needs, which are essential elements of medical logistics.

Sumarjaya, Head of the Health Crisis Center, described this collaboration as a strategic step. “Through this partnership with I.S.A.R. Germany, which is WHO-classified, Muhammadiyah EMT can accelerate the WHO classification process and enhance the quality of global medical services,” he stated.

The training aims to ensure that Muhammadiyah’s EMT is capable of responding to disasters with international standards, both domestically and abroad. Chairman of Muhammadiyah EMT, Corona Rintawan, expressed his expectations for the training.

“After this training, our Muhammadiyah EMT colleagues will have improved competencies, particularly in logistics. This is crucial for preparing for the upcoming WHO verification,” said Corona.

He added that the training not only enhanced participants’ understanding but also brought together old and new teams to share experiences. “This exchange of knowledge will make Muhammadiyah EMT better prepared for the WHO verification in 2025,” he added.

M. Taufiq Ulinuha, a participant from MDMC Central Java, appreciated the training. He found the program essential for preparing EMT to face future challenges.

“Through this training, we can adapt to new and more advanced facilities. Intensive exercises like this are crucial to ensure we are well-prepared for the verification process,” said Taufiq.

This program is expected to enhance Muhammadiyah EMT’s quality of medical services for disaster-affected communities. Moreover, the international collaboration with I.S.A.R. Germany serves as a significant asset in strengthening Muhammadiyah EMT’s position as a globally recognized humanitarian organization.

With a focus on capacity building and professionalism, Muhammadiyah EMT is ready to make a significant contribution on the international stage, providing effective, safe, and well-coordinated medical services to disaster-affected communities.
