Muhammadiyah EMT Officially Verified: The First in Indonesia, A Gift for Muhammadiyah’s 113th Anniversary

PWMJATENG.COM, Yogyakarta – Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) has officially made history. The Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team (EMT) has successfully passed verification by the World Health Organization (WHO). The official announcement was delivered by the WHO Verification Team on Sunday (October 19) at the KH Sudja’ Mosque Hall, Bantul, Yogyakarta.

During the event, the WHO Verification Team presented the assessment results before all members of the Muhammadiyah EMT and invited guests. Several key figures were in attendance, including Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah) leaders Syafiq Mughni and Agus Taufiqurrahman, as well as the Chair of LRB-MDMC PP Muhammadiyah, Budi Setiawan. Representatives from other central councils, institutions, and partner organizations that have long supported Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian efforts also attended the ceremony.

In their statement, the WHO Verification Team announced that the Muhammadiyah EMT is now part of the global EMT network, registered as the 63rd team in the world. More remarkably, Muhammadiyah’s EMT is the first from Indonesia to receive official recognition from the WHO.

Muhammadiyah Chairman Syafiq Mughni expressed deep gratitude for this historic achievement. He stated that WHO’s recognition is tangible proof of Muhammadiyah’s professionalism and commitment to global humanitarian work.

“Alhamdulillah, this is the result of years of hard work by the entire Muhammadiyah EMT team. We should be proud that Indonesia now has an EMT recognized by the world,” he said.

The WHO verification process covered two main aspects: administrative evaluation and field assessment. The administrative aspect included document readiness, management systems, and organizational structures that meet international standards. Meanwhile, the field assessment ensured the team’s operational readiness to provide professional, rapid, and well-coordinated medical emergency responses in various disaster situations.

This milestone also serves as a special gift ahead of Muhammadiyah’s 113th anniversary, which will be commemorated in November.

With the WHO verification, Muhammadiyah EMT is now officially recognized as an internationally certified emergency medical team from Indonesia. The team is ready to deploy for humanitarian missions both domestically and globally. This success affirms that Muhammadiyah’s da’wah movement extends beyond spiritual and social dimensions—it also has a real and measurable impact on universal humanitarian service.
